Flipkart Foundation and Akshaya Patra Bring Morning Nutrition to Over 1 Lakh Government School Children in Karnataka

Bengaluru, Aug 06: Over 1 lakh government school children across Bengaluru and Hubli received nutritious morning snacks through a partnership between Flipkart Foundation and The Akshaya Patra Foundation, helping address classroom hunger and enabling children to begin their school day better prepared to learn. Implemented under Akshaya Patra’s Morning Nutrition Programme, the initiative complemented the Government of India’s PM POSHAN programme and supported improved learning readiness among participating students.

The programme complemented the Government of India’s PM POSHAN initiative by delivering over 21 lakh nutritious morning servings, helping children begin their school day with improved nutrition, energy and focus. Among those reached was Shreya Jeeragi, a Class 6 student from Hubli, whose family of seven depends on daily wage work. For many children like Shreya, the morning snack was often the first meal of the day. Teachers in participating schools observed improved classroom participation and attentiveness among children receiving the morning snacks.

The programme was delivered through The Akshaya Patra Foundation’s established kitchen and distribution network, ensuring timely delivery of nutritious morning snacks across all supported schools. Beyond the children directly served, the initiative is estimated to have positively impacted over 4 lakh people, including their families and surrounding communities.

Rajneesh Kumar, Chief Corporate Affairs Officer, Flipkart Group and Board Member, Flipkart Foundation, said, "Every child deserves the opportunity to begin the school day ready to learn. Good nutrition is fundamental to making that possible. Through our partnership with The Akshaya Patra Foundation, we have been able to reach over one lakh government school children in Karnataka with nutritious morning snacks that help address classroom hunger. This collaboration reflects our belief that lasting social impact comes from working with organisations that bring deep community expertise and a shared commitment to improving children’s lives.”

Shridhar Venkat, CEO, The Akshaya Patra Foundation, said, "When a child comes to school hungry, learning becomes much harder. Through our partnership with Flipkart Foundation, we have been able to reach more children with nutritious morning meals that help them begin the school day with the energy and focus they need to learn. Partnerships like these enable us to extend our reach and move closer to our shared goal that no child’s education should be compromised because of hunger.”

This initiative is part of Flipkart Foundation’s broader work across four focus areas: skill development, entrepreneurship and market access, environmental responsibility and community development. Since 2022, the Foundation has positively impacted over 4.14 million underserved and marginalised individuals, nearly half of whom are women. By partnering with organisations that have deep community expertise, the Foundation combines Flipkart’s scale and capabilities with strong local execution to create lasting impact.
