BSE, Zerodha Glitches Disrupt Some F&O Trades, Traders Raise Concerns

Mumbai, Sep 10: Stock market traders raised concerns on Thursday after technical issues affected trading in some futures and options (F&O) contracts on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), with certain Sensex option contracts reportedly facing problems with price updates and order execution.

The disruption came on the weekly expiry day for Sensex derivatives, when trading activity is generally high and even short technical interruptions can create difficulties for traders managing positions.

BSE said it experienced a brief technical outage beginning at around 9:42 a.m., affecting one partition of its cash segment and the securities mapped to it. Other partitions continued to operate normally, and the exchange said regular trading operations were restored by around 10:08 a.m.

At the same time, traders using brokerage platforms reported difficulties with some BSE F&O contracts. Zerodha said there were issues with price updates and order placement across brokers for certain contracts and that it was working with the exchange to resolve the problem. The brokerage later informed users that the issue had been resolved.

Some traders reported that selected Sensex option contracts, particularly around the 75,000 strike range, were not showing updated prices or were difficult to exit. However, trading in several other F&O contracts continued normally.

The incident has once again highlighted the importance of reliable exchange and trading-platform infrastructure, particularly during expiry sessions when market volumes and price movements can rise sharply.

For retail investors and active traders, uninterrupted access to live prices and order execution is crucial for managing risk. Any delay in price updates or order processing can make it difficult to modify or close positions at the intended price.

The episode also underlines the need for strong coordination between stock exchanges, brokers and technology providers to ensure that technical disruptions are identified and resolved quickly, helping maintain investor confidence and the smooth functioning of India's growing capital markets.
