Oct 05: From 15 to 20 October, the band Tavern-er-Taal will perform twice a day, bringing together three generations of Bengali music across the six days of Durga Puja. The programme moves from the classics of Hemanta Mukhopadhyay and Manna Dey, to Lata Mangeshkar, and then into the more contemporary sound of Mohiner Ghoraguli, Cactus and Fossils.

It is, essentially, a Pujo playlist built across generations: songs that have travelled from parents’ records to children’s playlists, brought into the same room during Kolkata’s busiest week of the year.
Tok Jhal Mishti Murgi Lebu Lonka Maach
There is a food joke running through the menu, too. Daak Naam vs Tyash Naam plays with the difference between what Bengalis actually call a dish and what a menu might call it. Tok Jhal Mishti Murgi becomes Sweet & Spicy Tamarind Chicken. Lebu Lonka Maach becomes Kaffir Lime & Chilli Fish.
The idea is simple: daak naam is what you call it at home; tyash naam is what it becomes on paper.
